Kent Allen Carpenter

Kent Allen Carpenter, 65, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023, at Indiana University Health West in Avon.

He was born September 6, 1958, in Anderson, the son of Donald Eugene and Carole (Thrush) Carpenter.  On September 17, 1983, Kent married his wife of 40 years, Kathy Ross, and she survives.

In addition to Kathy, Kent is survived by his mother of Anderson; son, Ross Carpenter of Indianapolis; brother, Troy Carpenter of Chesterfield; mother-in-law, Sherolyn Everhart Ross of Avon; sisters-in-law, Karen Burcham and husband, Steve of Indianapolis, Kay Mason and husband, John, of Fortville, and Kristy Ross of Avon; brother-in-law, Johnny Ross and significant other, Connie, of Indianapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; and sister-in-law, Micki Carpenter.

In 1977, Kent graduated from Highland High School.  He received his associates degree in business from Vincennes University, in 1980, and his bachelor’s degree in communications from Indiana State University, in 1983.

Kent formerly worked in customer service at Caligore Medical for five years, and retired from the Marion County Prosecutors office, with 10 years of service, in 2017. 

He was a tournament director for Hammer Martial Arts, and was the personal coach for his son, Ross.

Kent’s important passions were his devotion to Kathy and Ross.

His hobbies included taekwondo (TKD), and watching auto racing and hockey.

Visitation will be from 11 am to 1pm, Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at the Morristown Methodist Church, 221 S. Washington St. in Morristown.

Funeral services will follow at 1 pm, at the church, with Pastor Kory Chesser officiating.

Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.

Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Indianapolis Humane Society, 7929 N. Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
