Larry Clayton Smith, Sr., 79, of Greenwood, formerly of Shelby County passed away Friday, September 6, 2019 at Greenwood Healthcare Center in Greenwood.
He was born March 10, 1940, in Shelbyville, the son of Clayton J. “Smitty” and Vivian Eileen (Moberly) Smith. On July 8, 1967, he married his wife of 52 years, Maude Robbins, and she survives.
In addition to Maude, Larry is survived by his sons, Larry Clayton Smith Jr., and wife, Colleen, and Jeffrey Lee Smith, all of Indianapolis; daughter, Crystal Smith of Greenwood; grandchildren, Kelsey Rushton and husband, Scott, Michael Smith and Michelle Ficklin, Matthew Smith, Dalton Smith, Luke Smith, Cody Wayman, Jeffrey Smith Jr., Steven Smith, Damion Smith, Brittany Crosby, Bryson Smith, Alonna Smith, Natalie Smith, Bailey Skidmore, Brooke Robinson, Corbin Robinson and Cash Smith; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Sandra Jean Richards.
Larry graduated in 1958 from Wood High School.
He attended Indian Creek Christian Church.
Larry was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.
He worked at Kroger Diary for 30 years, retiring in 2002.
Larry was a member of American Legion Post No. 70 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed flying private airplanes and driving simulated vehicles.
Larry also leaves behind his dog, Romeo.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 9, 2019 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the funeral home, with Rev. Bill Horner officiating.
Interment will be at Fairland Cemetery in Fairland.
