Larry Joe Roberts 69, from Shelbyville, IN, died on September 17 2015 in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born October 8, 1945 in Anderson, IN to AC and Pearl Roberts. He was a graduate of Madison Heights High School class of 1963. Larry earned a B.S. in Business from Marian University in Indianapolis, and a M.S. in Industrial Psychology from Purdue University in Indianapolis. Larry was a dedicated teacher through out his life. He met his wife of 38 years while teaching at Saint Simon School in Indianapolis. After earning his masters degree specializing in Human Resources, he continued to teach classes in the evening. Larry taught courses at Concordia University of Wisconsin in Carmel, Indiana from 1992 to 2009. Larry was a member of many professional organizations including the Human Resource Association of Central Indiana, which he served as president for one term, and he was a board member of the Society for Human Resource Management. Larry’s true passions were his family, and his lifelong love of collecting antiques. He enjoyed collecting books, local artwork, and anything relating to Indiana History. Having served as Director of Personnel for The Indianapolis Star from 1986 to 1996, Larry was especially fond of collecting Indy Star News memorabilia. He is survived by his mother-in-law, Isabelle Burnside Vollrath of Indianapolis; daughters Melissa B. (Dr. Mark Greiner) Roberts, Iowa City, Iowa, Elizabeth G. (Kent Jolly) Roberts, Berkeley, California, Emily (Mark) Sullivan, Pompano Beach, Florida; granddaughters, Naomi Greiner, Audrey Jolly, Sarah Jolly; grandson, Levi Roberts Greiner. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 38 years, Ruth Vollrath Roberts. Larry will be remembered for his sense of humor and for his dedication to family and friends. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Forest Hill Cemetery, 704 Morris Avenue in Shelbyville. Services entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
