Lawson Williams Jr., 90, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at his residence.
He was born November 11, 1925, in Bartholomew County, the son of Lawson Sr. and Minnie (Baker) Williams. He married Alice (Stout) Williams on June 22, 1946, and she preceded him in death on March 4, 1997. On December 11, 1999, he married Shirley (Corley) Cummings Williams, and she survives.
Lawson is also survived by his sons, Marvin Williams and wife, Brenda, of Murphy, Texas, Michael Williams of Shelbyville, and Johnnie Williams of Evansville; step-son, Robert A. Cummings and wife, Michelle of Shelbyville; and step-daughter, Patricia A. Ratekin and husband, Denis, of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Dorrie Rayburn, Darren Williams, Bradly Williams, Sean Williams and Todd Williams; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wilbur Williams, Russell Lee Williams, Ralph Williams and Francis Williams and sister, Agnes Bozell.
Lawson was a member of Hope’s Point Baptist Church.
He had formerly worked at Chambers Aircraft, Shelbyville Central School and Sandman Brothers.
Lawson enjoyed vegetable gardening and lawn care.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Hope’s Point Baptist Church, 1703 Miller Avenue in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, with Rev. Ed Mohr officiating.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
