Lee Adkins, 84, of Fairland passed away Saturday, May 24, 2008 in Beech Grove Meadows in Beech Grove.
Born January 10, 1924 in Crawford County, Indiana to Edward James Adkins and Hazel (McDaniels) Adkins. He married Thelma M. Crecelius on August 3, 1946 in Franklin, Indiana and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Wayne E. (wife, Anita) Adkins and R. Dale (wife, Runea) Adkins, both of Indianapolis, James S. (wife, Julie) Adkins of Fairland; daughters, Wanda E. (husband, Roger) Wheeler of Indianapolis, Sandra L. Murphy of Connersville, Jane A. (husband, Richard) York and Roxy D. (husband, Tony) Eldridge both of Shelbyville; brother, Shirley Adkins of Indianapolis; sisters, Betty Dawson, Wanda Jones and Ferrell Adkins, all of New Albany; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Everett, Russell and Virgil; and sisters, Cathern, Mabel Opal and Mayme.
Mr. Adkins retired from Chrysler Corporation Electrical Plant in Indianapolis on Shadeland Avenue and was formerly employed at Admiral Corp. in Shelbyville.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in England and France.
Mr. Adkins was a member of the United Auto Workers Local No. 1226 and American Legion Post No. 276 in Beech Grove.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m today at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Steven Bohall officiating.
Interment will be in Fairland Cemetery in Fairland.
