Lela K. Raikes

Lela K. Raikes, 91, of Greenfield, formerly of Morristown passed away Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Brandywine Nursing Home in Greenfield. Born August 15, 1918, in Taylor County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Stella (Short) Polley. He married Coy Raikes, he preceded her in death on February 28, 1984. Survivors include her children, Louise (husband, Gerald) Johnson of Arlington, Harold (wife, Glenda) Raikes of New Palestine and Donna (husband, Mike) Kinman of Buena Vista; sisters, Lucy Rogers and Dorothy Moore both of Rushville, Marie Buckman of Greenfield and Frances Macy of Morristown; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Charles Polley, Tom Polley and Perry Polley; sisters, Lauri Morgan and Juanita Nigh; granddaughter, Paula Kinman; and grandson, John Aaron Raikes. Mrs. Raikes was a homemaker, and had previously worked as a nurse's aid at the Marion County Home. She was a member of Fountaintown Christian Church. Mrs. Raikes graduated from Westland High School. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery.
