Leonidas H. “Lonnie” Bowman, 54, of Fairland, a lifelong Shelby County resident, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis.
He was born September 5, 1960, in Shelbyville, the son of Ralph and Anna (DeWitt) Bowman. He married Terri Huffman on June 1, 1991, and she survives.
Other survivors include his mother of Fairland; sons, Bradley Huffman and wife, Crystal, of Greenwood and Leonidas “Jared” Bowman and girlfriend, Drew Weaver, of Fairland; brothers, Donald Bowman and wife, Debbie, of Fairland and Ralph “Tony” Bowman and wife, Jill, of Freeport; sister, Laurie Horn and husband, Jerry, of Fountaintown; grandson, Mason Huffman; mother-in-law, Sharon Huffman of New Whiteland; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; grandson, Gavin Huffman and father-in-law, Harland Huffman.
Lonnie graduated from Morristown High School in 1978.
He was a member of New Life United Methodist Church and the Shelby County Dairy Farmers.
Lonnie owned and operated VanBuren Equipment, the former Don Hill Silo Sales, for the past 12 years.
He was raised on a dairy farm and milked his entire childhood and into his adult years.
Lonnie enjoyed raising livestock, hunting and fishing.
He loved spending time with his grandson, Mason.
Lonnie is also survived by his beagle, Sam.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the funeral home, with Pastor Ben Biggs officiating.
Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
