Lorene Hope Lemmon, 97, of Shelbyville passed away Monday, April 28, 2008 at Ashford Place Health Campus.
Born November 15, 1910, in Baker Township, Morgan County, she was the daughter of Elmer and Ida (Hodges) Hendrickson. She married John Graham Lemmon on June 7, 1953, and he preceded her in death on January 1, 1982.
Survivors include her nieces, Julia Saunders of Cape Coral, Florida, Lisa Holt of Fort Myers, Florida, Cornelia Kelly of Brownwood, Texas, and Lois Brown of Titusville, Florida; and nephews, John Powell of Indianapolis and Ralph Powell of St. Francis, Minnesota.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Pauline Hendrickson; and brother, Julius Hendrickson.
Mrs. Lemmon lived most of her life in Shelbyville. She previously lived in Paragon.
She was a retired school teacher. She last taught math at Shelbyville Junior High School. Prior to that she taught math at North Central High School in Indianapolis.
Mrs. Lemmon was recognized as a Hoosier Founder by the Indiana State Museum and Historic sites.
She graduated from Paragon High School and Indiana University.
Mrs. Lemmon was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of Presbyterian Women, the choir and was the Circle chairwoman. She also was a member of Retired Teachers Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, World War I Auxiliary, president of the Literary Club, Friends of the Library, D.K.G., a local homemakers club, and the Junior Historical Society, where she served on the advisory board.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, 124 W. Broadway St.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Pastor Jerry Kuyk officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison Street.
