Loretta "Sally" O'Mara, 86, of Shelbyville died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
Born Feb. 20, 1920, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Ora and Fairie (Snodgrass) Borden. She married Ambrose O'Mara on July 15, 1942, and he preceded her in death in 1966.
Survivors include three daughters, Carol Jean "Jeanie" (husband, Tom) Thieman of Peoria, Ill., Shirley (husband, Larry) Montgomery of Batesville and Barbara "Lee" O'Mara of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Megan Poliquin, Gina Brinkman, Dr. Kelley Thieman and Matthew Montgomery; six great-grandchildren; and companion Robert Eugene Miller of Shelbyville.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles Borden and Caryl Borden; and two sisters, Mildred King and Dorothy Borden.
Mrs. O'Mara had been employed at The Shelbyville News for 27 years, retiring in 1986. After retiring she was employed with Goodwill Industries in Indianapolis and the registration office of Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis.
She was a volunteer at Major Hospital and the Franklin Methodist Home.
Mrs. O'Mara graduated in 1938 from Fairland High School.
She was a member of Vestavia Club, Fairland Order of Eastern Star chapter No. 359 and First United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
