Louis Peduto, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born December 17, 1921 in Amsterdam, New York to Michele and Louisa (Luciano) Peduto. He graduated from Coughlin High School in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania in 1940 and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 137 Ordnance Company. After the war, Louis moved to Fort Wayne where he earned his BS in Engineering at Indiana Tech. There he met and married his wife of 62 years, Mary Leiter.
Louis began his career with General Electric in Fort Wayne, later relocating with the company to Shelbyville. He accepted a position with the Ford Motor Company in the early 70’s where he stayed until retirement.
He was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and chairman of the St. Joseph PTA Festival. He also was a scout leader with St. Joseph Boy Scout Troop 203 and took pride that both his sons and grandson, Adrian Peduto, earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Louis enjoyed gardening and volunteering with his wife Mary on the Shelby County Election Board.
In later years, his greatest joy was attending his grandchildren’s many sporting events, plays, recitals and other activities.
Louis is survived by his wife Mary and by his children: Michelle Berry and husband Benjamin of Fort Wayne, Michael Peduto and wife Keri of Indianapolis, Dee Dee Peduto, wife of Angelo and Gina Coombs and husband Brad of Fishers; grandchildren Luke, Joshua, Marria, Anna, Adrian, Gia Heather, Rachel, Louis and Arianna; great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Dominic, Sebastian, Elijah, Alex and Emelia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers; John Peduto, Slavatore Ciccone, Eugene Ciconne, Joseph Ciccone and Earnest Ciccone and recently, his dear son Angelo Peduto.
Visitation will be from 11 am to 12:30 pm, Friday, September 16, 2016 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 819 S. Harrison Street in Shelbyville followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway Street, Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Saturday, September 17 at Sheets and Childs Funeral Home, 206 N. Main Street in Churubusco. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Hooper King Cemetery in Noble County, Indiana.
