Lowell “Gene” Rainey, 80, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at his residence.
He was born July 9, 1934, in Shelbyville, the son of Orville and Mary Catherine (Slusser) Rainey. On May 23, 1958, he married his wife of 56 years, Hazel Jenkins, and she preceded him in death on May 25, 2014.
Survivors include his sister, Patricia K. Braunagel of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Marcia Martin.
Gene graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1952.
He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Gene was a member of Los Lunas Baptist Church in New Mexico, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He loved his dogs.
Private services will be observed.
Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
Services entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
