Lt. Col. (Ret.) Charles Faye "Chuck" Schuler, Jr. passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Wildwood Health Care Center in Indianapolis.
Born November 29, 1929, in Shelby County, he was the son of Charles F. and Sadie (Miley) Schuler, Sr. He married Wilma Frances Walters on August 27, 1950, and she preceded him in death on July 9, 1988. He then married Virginia Ruth "Jenny" Cosby on February 14, 1999, and she survives.
Other survivors include his daughters, Cathy Schuler of Shelbyville and Carol (husband, Robert) Jones of LaGrange, Kentucky; son, Duane (wife, Diane) Schuler of Shelbyville; step-sons, John Heck of St. Charles, Illinois and Tim Heck of Indianapolis; step-daughter, Kathy Pitcock of Greenwood; sister, Margaret Ann Walker of Shelbyville; seven step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and son, Steven Schuler.
Mr. Schuler attended Waldron High School through his junior year and graduated from Raleigh High School in Rush County in 1947.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was station in Germany and was a military advisor in Japan.
Mr. Schuler later was employed as a salesman for several companies, retiring from Central Hardware in 1992.
He was a former member of Kiwanis in Shelbyville and American Legion post in both Rush and Shelby Counties.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Friday, March 4, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.; and from 10:30 to 11:30 am, Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Bentonville Christian Church, 6465 NCR 550 W, Bentonville, Indiana.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 am, Saturday at the church, with Shannon Burford officiating.
Interment will be in Bentonville Cemetery.
