Lucille "Lou" Porter, 87, of Franklin, a former Shelbyville resident, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin.
Born August 20, 1923, in Jamestown, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Walter Thomas and Bethel (Delk) Upchurch. She married Fred Stewart in November of 1944 and he preceded her in death on May 18, 1975; John R. Flora in June of 1946 and he preceded her in death on March 28, 1972; and Loren "Lee" Porter in January, 1977 and he preceded her in death on January 15, 1987.
Survivors include her sons; Jerry (wife, Linda) Stewart of Shelbyville and John R. "Bobby" (wife, Jackie) Flora of Memphis, Tennessee; daughters, Linda (husband, Kenny) Fitzgerald and Mary Jo (husband, Dave) Phares, both of Shelbyville and Georgia (husband, Ronnie) Inabnitt of Greenfield; brother, Cecil (wife, Clarice) Upchurch of Muncie, Indiana; sister, Lela Reeder of Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Michele (husband, Kim) Coffey, Anthony "Tony" Stewart, Andrea (husband, Paul) Shauck, Rhonda (husband, Ty) Barnett, Cindy (husband, Larry) Allen, David (wife, Michelle) Phares, Val (wife, Alicia) Phares, Jodi (husband, Scott) Courtney, Debbie (fiancee, Matt Johns) Comstock, Tony (wife, Candi) Fair, Brenda (husband, Jeff) Grimme, Anita (husband, Chuck) Walton, Joshua Moore and Jessica Moore; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Casto Upchurch; sisters, Dorine Crabtree and Nona Horstman; grandson, Kenny Wayne Fitzgerald; and great-grandson, Curtis Tucker.
Mrs. Porter had been enployed at the Chicken and Steak Inn for more than 15 years, until the restaurant closed.
She was a member of the American legion Auxiliary, a 25-plus-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Naamah Chapter and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm, Sunday, June 19, 2011 at the Indiana Masonic Home, 690 S. State St. in Franklin, Indiana and from 11 am to 1 pm, Monday, June 20, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm, Monday at the funeral home, with Rev. Charles Stanley, Chaplain of the Indiana Masonic Home, officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
