Luella Marie (Hatten) Douglas

Luella Marie (Hatten) Douglas, 92, of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at her residence. Born December 25, 1919, in Indiana, she was the daughter of Charles and Nettie (Sipple) Shoaf. She married Harold V. Hatten on July 3, 1941, and he preceded her in death on November 16, 1969, she married James E. Douglas, Sr. on March 19, 1983, and he preceded her in death on October 22, 2005. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Catherine "Kay" (husband, Fred) Reff of Shelbyville; step-sons, James Douglas, Jr. and Doug Douglas; step-daughters, Ann Kephart and Lois Sahm; sister, Martha (husband, James) Gephart of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Angela Cawein and Allen Reff; 12 step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Freda Morrison. Mrs. Douglas retired from Olinger Insurance in 1984, where she had been a secretary for many years. She was a member of First Christian Church, where she was active in the ladies group and Shelbyville Order of Eastern Star Lodge No. 73. Mrs. Douglas graduated from Waldron High School in 1937, and enjoyed gardening and golfing. Private family services will be observed. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 s. 17th St., Columbus, Indiana 47201. Services entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
