Margaret C. Clayton, 97, of Shelbyville passed away Monday, September 17, 2007, at Westminister Village North in Indianapolis.
Born March 23, 1910, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of George J. and Nellie Muriel (Woods) Imel.
Survivors include her sons, Richard Max (wife, Guyla) Clayton of Leona Valley, Calif., Frederick Imel (wife, Margarita) Clayton of Santa ana, Calif., and Glendon Eugene (wife, Jackie) Clayton of Tampa, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-granchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Albert Imel and Hugh Imel.
Ms. Clayton was a lifelong Shelbyville resident.
She had formerly been a bookkeeper for Culligan and the Grahm Ford dealership and later a real estate agent for Century 21.
Ms. Clayton was a volunteer for Hospice of Shelby County and Meals on Wheels and knitted hats for babies at Major Hospital.
She was the first woman president of the Realtor Association in Shelby County and a member of the First Christian Church, Zonta Club, Business and Professional Women and Shelby County Arts Council.
Ms. Clayton graduated from Boggstown High School in 1928.
She was an avid bridge player.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Nathan D. Wilson officiating.
Interment will be in Fairland Cemetery in Fairland.
