Margaret C. Hilligoss

Margaret C. Hilligoss, 86, of Indianapolis and a former Shelbyville resident, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. Born November 24, 1924, in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, she was the daughter of Edmond and Caroline (Jene) Coddington. She married Donald G. Hilligoss on August 25, 1945, and he preceded her in death on April 22, 1998. Survivors include her daughters, Dr. Susan Hilligoss of Clemson, South Carolina and Jennifer (husband, Craig) Beebe of St. Louis, Missouri; son, Jeffrey (wife, Liz) Hilligoss of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; grandchildren, Ryan Beebe, Megan Beebe, Tyler Hilligoss, Hannah Hilligoss, Sarah Hilligoss, Madison Hilligoss and Anthony Hilligoss; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Evelyn Carlton and Jayne McNutt; brothers, Edward Coddington and Russell Coddington. Mrs. Hilligoss was a former Shelbyville resident and had resided in Indianapolis since 1965. She was a member of Tri Kappa and the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Mrs. Hilligoss graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in Cleveland Heights, Ohio; and later studied to become a dental assistant. She was an amateur birder and lover of animals, particularly dogs. She also loved roses. Mrs. Hilligoss was a United Methodist Church parishionor. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
