Margaret S. Wertz, 86, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Morristown Manor in Morristown.
Born July 25, 1924, in Port Talbot, south Wales, Great Britain, she was the daughter of Will and Margaret Breeze. She married Garnet Wertz on June 9, 1945, and he preceded her in death on December 23, 2010.
Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Ann (husband, Bob) Tucker of Shelbyville and Marilyn Kay (husband, Frank W.) Bailey of Mooresville; son, Robert (wife, Georgia) Wertz of Shelbyville; sister, Martha Campbell of Port Talbot; brother, Tom Breeze of Port Talbot; grandsons, Scott Tucker and Duane Bailey; granddaughter, Amanda Thoman; and great-grandchildren, Mariah Tucker, Makayla Bailey, Megan Bailey, Cooper Thoman and Camden Thoman.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Breeze; brothers, Will Breeze, Glanville Breeze, Glenn Breeze and Glendo Breeze; and grandson, Greg Bailey.
Mrs. Wertz became a United States citizen in 1959.
She was a homemaker, and worked in an airplane factory in Port Talbot during World War II. She also formerly worked at Harrison Street Cafeteria and babysat for several families.
Mrs. Wertz was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and attended First Church of the Nazarene in Shelbyville.
She enjoyed knitting, sewing and her flower garden.
Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Miller Cemetery.
