Margaret Simerly Whitson

Margaret Simerly Whitson, age 86, of Greenfield passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Golden Living Center ?Brandywine? in Greenfield. Born August 22, 1925, in Sullivan County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Frank and Lillie (Beeler) Simerly. She married Clarence E. Whitson and he preceded her in death in January of 1977. Survivors include her daughters, Janie (husband, Steve) Bennett of Greenfield and Patti Mitchell of Shelbyville; sons, Lew (wife, Kris) Whitson of Indianapolis and Benny (wife, Shirley) White of Shelbyville; brother, Ray Simerly of Bristol, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; four sisters; and granddaughter, Barbie White. Mrs. Whitson formerly owned and operated the Swan Dry Cleaners. She had previously attended Grace Wesleyan Church. Mrs. Whitson enjoyed collecting antiques and loved country music. Visitation will be from 1 p.m.to 3 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m.at the funeral home. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, with Dr. Kenneth T. Jewell. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 6415 Castleway West Drive, Suite 114, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250.
