Marian Meiks Tomeo

Marian Meiks, Tomeo, 91, of Shelbyville passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Major Hospital. Born June 16, 1916, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Scott and Lecta E. (Hauk) Meiks. She married John F. Tomeo on June 2, 1942, and he preceded her in death on March 19, 1945. Survivors include her son, David (wife, Betty) Tomeo of Indianapolis. She also was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Della Meiks, who raised her; and brother Robert Meiks. Mrs. Tomeo had been employed at Lumberman's Mutual Insurance in Indianapolis during her early years. She graduated from Shelbyville High School, attended DePauw University for two years and then Indiana Business College. Mrs. Tomeo was a member of First United Methodist Church, Delta Theta Tau sorority for more than 45 years, COTERIE and BP Club. She liked to crochet and was an avid reader. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shelbyville-Shelby County Public Library, 57 W. Broadway St., Shelbyville, IN 46176; or First United Methodist Church, 34 W. Washington St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
