Marie Eileen Macy, 96, of Morristown, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015 at her residence, with her family at her side, after a long battle with kidney disease.
She was born April 6, 1919, in Rush County, the daughter of Charles A. and Jessie D. (Black) Ramsey. She married T.S. Macy on November 30, 1943, and he preceded her in death on October 24, 2007.
Marie is survived by her son, Steven Macy and wife, Jane, of Shelbyville; daughters, Lois Macy of Shelbyville, and Kathy Groves of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Tom Macy, Matthew Groves and wife, Becky, and Nathan Groves and wife, Becky; great-grandson, Spencer Dean Groves; sisters-in-law, Marion Ramsey of Greenfield and Rosemary Macy of Morristown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Martha “Dean” Lewellyn; brothers, Robert Ramsey, Ralph “Jack” Ramsey and wife, Rosie, and Buford Ramsey and wife, June; and a half-sister, Ruth Wilson.
Marie graduated from Manilla High School in 1937.
She was a member of Little Blue River Friends Church and had taught Sunday school. She was also a very active member of the Missionary Society at the church, piecing and knotting quilts for family services and homeless shelters, making puppy pillows and gowns for the children at Riley Hospital, cough pillows for patients at Major Hospital, and having fundraising dinners.
Marie was an excellent seamstress and was formerly employed at J&L Garment Co.
She loved to spend time with her family. Marie enjoyed sewing, quilting and reading. She made hundreds of quilts and for years would give each of her children one for Christmas. She made white baseball pants for her grandson’s little league baseball team one year.
Marie was known for saying, “Gotta get up, times a wastin’.”
She also leaves behind her dog, Suze.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 23, 2015 and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Little Blue River Friends Church, 142 South County Road 1000 West in Rush County.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the church, with the Revs. Peggy Caldwell and David Oakes officiating.
Interment will be at Little Blue River Friends Cemetery in Rush County.
Services entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
