Marie H. Schrader

Marie H. Schrader, 89, of Fairland, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Morristown Manor in Morristown. She was born November 23, 1923, in Shelby County. Marie was the daughter of John C. and Martha Emma (Landwerlen) Schrader. Survivors include three nieces, Lynn Anderson of Columbus, Ohio, Cindy Means of St. Mary's, Georgia and Chris Gregory of Sebring, Florida; and a sister-in-law, the widow of her deceased brother George Schrader, Elizabeth Schrader of Sebring; two great-nieces and two great-nephews; as well as cousins Beverly Watt, Jeffrey Watt and friend Robert Dickinson. Marie was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Loren Schrader, John Schrader and George Schrader. She graduated from Fairland High School in 1942, and attended Indiana University for three years. Miss Schrader had been employed by the blood bank at Eli Lilly for four years, and in pathology at I.U. Medical Center for seven years. She retired from Ford Motor Company after 21 ½ years as a secretary in the manufacturing engineering department. She attended the Evangelical United Church of Christ and had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1935 and Eastern Star Chapter 359 since 1942. Marie enjoyed traveling, often with her companion Desco (Mac) McKay. She was also a true friend to the many cats and dogs she owned during her life, especially the many strays that she “adopted.” Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. with Eastern Star services at 7:30 p.m. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the funeral home, with Pastor Linda Frische-Mouri officiating.
