Mark A. Matthews

Mark A. Matthews, 50 of Jerome, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2009 in Shelbyville. He was born on December 5, 1958 in Jackson, Michigan to James L. and Phyllis J. (Rutan) Matthews. He married Diane Hommerding on May 10, 1980 in Jackson, MI, and she survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Rachel L. Matthews of Jerome, his son, Ryan A. Matthews of Jackson, his parents, James and Phyllis Matthews of Jackson, one brother, Dennis (wife, Rhonda) Matthews of Jackson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gregory L. Matthews and his grandparents. Mark lived in the Jackson and Jerome area for several years. He graduated from East Jackson High School 1977. He then attended Jackson Community College for two years. Mark was a self employed horse trainer. He was a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 156 in Jackson. Mark loved to hunt, fish and he loved animals. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Loyal Order of the Moose Charities or to the family. Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory assisted with local arrangements.
