Martha Ann Creed, 89, of Shelbyville passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Major Hospital.
Born February 1, 1920, in Rays Crossing, she was the daughter of Earl and Blanche (Moore) Haehl. She married Claude Creed in September of 1941, and he preceded her in death in 1944, while serving in World War II.
Survivors include her daughter, Claudia (husband, Bob) Hoban of Venice, Florida; sisters, Carol (husband, Floyd) Cooper and Phyllis Barton, both of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Tom (wife, Janice) Hoban, Bill (wife, Meredith) Hoban and Emily (husband, Mike) Cissell; and great-grandchildren, Zachary Cissell, McKenzie Cissell, Caroline Hoban and Claire Hoban.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John D. Haehl; and sister, Mary Kathryn Marshall.
Mrs. Creed had worked for the Shelby County auditor, Ray Breedlove Insurance, Girl Scouts of America, at Fort Benjamin Harrison and as procurement agent for the United States Department of Defense in Columbus, Ohio, from 1967 until retiring in 1984, when she returned to Shelbyville.
She graduated from Waldron High School in 1938.
Mrs. Creed was a lifelong member of First Christian Church, where she was on the cradle roll and a member of Disciples women. She also was a member of Democrat Club, Junior Coterie, a lifetime member of Girls Scouts of America, and a 4-H leader for several years.
Mrs. Creed enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting and bridge.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Rev. Nathan D. Wilson officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
