Martha E. Higgins

Martha E. Higgins, 98, of Muncie died Monday, March 9, 2009 at Ashford Place Health Campus. Born October 19, 1910, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Michael A. and Rose (Hirschauer) Higgins. Survivors include her brother, Jack (wife, Virginia) Higgins of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Mary Bogeman, Ruth Thieman and Rita Fisher. Ms. Higgins had been employed with Indiana Bell Telephone for 47 years, retiring in 1975. She graduated from St. Joseph High School. Ms. Higgins was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Telephone Pioneers of American, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Muncie and Daughters of Isabella. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with the rosary recited at 11 a.m., Thursday at Carmony-Ewing Chapel of Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
