Martha “Imogene” Lewellyn, 93, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, November 15, 2013 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.
She was born August 22, 1920, in Mays, the daughter of Alfred and Jessie (Black) Ramsey. On June 29, 1941, she married her husband of 62 years, Eugene Lewellyn, and he preceded her in death on July 3, 2003.
Imogene is survived by her daughter, Janice Chandler of Waldron; son, Morris (wife, Carol) Lewellyn of Stratford, CT; sister, Eileen Macy of Gwynneville; grandchildren, Andrew (wife, Dana) Chandler, Darren (wife, Carrie) Chandler, Jennifer Lewellyn and Matthew (wife, Rachel) Lewellyn; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Emma and Alexander; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert Ramsey, Ralph Ramsey and Buford Ramsey; and a half-sister, Ruth Wilson.
Imogene graduated from Manilla High School in 1938.
She was a member of Beacon Baptist Church and loved to go to church.
Imogene formerly worked in the Shelbyville High School cafeteria and then in housekeeping at Major Hospital for 15 years.
She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, word search and number fill-in puzzles. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting and reading.
Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the funeral home, with Pastor Troy Collett officiating.
Interment will be in Bennett Cemetery in Shelby County.
