Martha Julia Hamner, 88, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008, at her home.
Born March 9, 1920, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Herman and Hazel (Burkher) Hamblen. She married Dale R. Hamner on February 12, 1942, and he survives.
Other survivors include her daughter, Marcia (husband, Joe) Erne of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Kim Beal of Westfield and Jay (wife, Nicole) Erne of Jacksonville, Fla.; and great-granddaughter, Megan Erne.
She was preceded indeath by her parents and brothe, Burkher Hamblen.
Mrs. Hamner was a secretary at Lawrence Central High School from 1959 to 1980. Prior to that she was employed at William H. Block Co. and during World War II, she worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C.
She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1938.
Mrs. Hamner attended Marietta United Methodist Church, where she played the organ since 1974. She also was a member and past president of COTERIE.
She loved animals, especially cats.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Andy Payton officiating.
Interment will be in Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
