Mary C. Rinehart, 88, of Shelbyville passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Ashford Place Health Campus.
Born May 11, 1923, in Plymouth, Indiana, she was the daughter of Samuel and Edna (Switzer) Baker. She married Richard W. "Dick" Rinehart on August 15, 1950, and he preceded her in death on January 27, 2002.
Other survivors include her sons, John M. (wife, Mary M.) Rinehart of Shelbyville and Mark W. (wife, Elizabeth) Rinehart of Danville; daughters, Jean (husband, Michael) Gleichman of Louisville, Kentucky and Susan (husband, Paul) Stephan of Mountain City, Tennessee; brother, Bill (wife, Martha) Baker of Plymouth, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Nancy Sayger and Barbara Hartman.
Mrs. Rinehart formerly taught at several Indiana High Schools including Waldron High School where she taught Home Economics and English. She retired in 1988 from Bloomington South High School as an English teacher.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville and attended Danville Christian Church in Danville, Indiana. She was also a member of Indiana Retired Teachers Association and a Home Economic Club.
Mrs. Rinehart graduated from Plymouth High School in 1940, Purdue University in 1943, and received her master's degree from Indiana University.
She enjoyed gardening and sewing.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Robb L. Barlow officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
