Mary E. Kaster, 94, of Shelbyville passed away Monday, June 29, 2009 at Ashford Place.
Born March 6, 1915, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of William and Fena (Reed) Epperson. She married Paul Gray Kaster, and he preceded her in death on April 28, 2003.
Survivors include her son, Phil (wife, Freda) Kaster of Shelbyville; daughter, Janet Compton of Flat Rock; grandchildren, Amy Compton, Christopher Compton, Danette Kaster, Paula Kaster, Craig (wife, Mary) Kaster; and great-grandchildren, Jonathan Hoop, Jared Hoop, Benjamin Purvis, Abraham Purvis, Caitlyn Purvis, Levi Kaster and Luke Kaster.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Floyd Epperson and William Epperson and grandson, Mark Kaster.
Mrs. Kaster had resided in Shelby County since 1938.
She had been a bookkeeper at Groff Awning Co., J.C. Penney Co. and Kasco Manufacturing Co. Inc., the family business, retiring in 1978.
Mrs. Kaster graduated from Hope High School in 1932, as valedictorian.
She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She was the last surviving member of two neighborhood clubs, the BP Club and Your Friends and Mine Club.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Gwen Pew officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
