Mary E. Sandefur

Mary Evelyn Sandefur, 87, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at Heritage House of Greensburg in Greensburg. Born Aug. 9, 1919, in Geneva, she was the daughter of Walter and Stella (Mohr) Patterson. She married Orval "Dee" Sandefur on July 5, 1938, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 2004. Survivors include one son, George D. Sandefur of Fremont, Calif.; one grandson, Bradley Sandefur; and three great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Garnet Patterson and Joe Patterson; and one sister, Opal Jones. Mrs. Sandefur was a lifelong Shelby County resident from the Flat Rock area. She was a homemaker and farm wife and previously had been employed at Kennedy Carliner. Mrs. Sandefur graduated from Geneva High School. She was a member of Geneva United Methodist Church. Mrs. Sandefur loved to cook for her family and friends. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Horner officiating. Interment will be in Miller Cemetery.
