Mary Jane Walton

Mary Jane Walton, 95, of Shelbyville our dearest sweet Mother passed away Monday, May 2, 2011 at her residence. She brightened our home with her abiding love. She was truly blessed with a beautiful life well lived. Her examples will stay with us throughout our lives and warm our hearts with many memories. Born December 17, 1915, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Wilbur C. and Mary A. (Dellekamp) Snyder. She married Fred Andrew Walton on October 14, 1950, and he preceded her in death on June 17, 1992. Survivors include son, Richard "Rick" Walton of Shelbyville; daughter, Karen (husband, William) Evans of Salt Lake City, Utah; stepson, Steven (wife, Becky) Walton of Del Rio, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Fern Kappes, Ruth Clawson and Catherine E. Schoentrup; and brothers, James Snyder, David Snyder, Wayne Snyder, Richard Snyder and John William Snyder. Mrs. Walton was a lifelong resident of Shelbyville and a homemaker. She was formerly employed at P.R. Mallory and the Garment Factory. Mrs. Walton was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Ladies Auxiliary at St. Joseph's, St. Anne's Altar Society and the St. Joe Social Club. Mary Jane enjoyed keeping a tidy home, was an excellent cook and her specialties were her pies and candy. She also enjoyed sewing and sharing her talents with many people. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., with the rosary recited at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., with Father Leon Reuter officiating. Interment will be in Fairland Cemetery in Fairland.
