Mary Josephine "Mary Jo" Allen, 85, of Gwynneville died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at Morristown Manor in Morristown.
Born May 2, 1921, in Gwynneville, she was the daughter of Ralph W. and Crystal Fern (Postan) Henderson. She married Edwin R. Allen on June 21, 1952, and he preceded her in death on May 4, 1998.
Survivors include one son, Philip R. Allen of Gwynneville; three daughters, Brenda J. (husband, Scott) Cupp of Shirley, Beth A. (husband, David) Goff of Charlottesville and Susan E. (husband, Todd) Goff of Gwynneville; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Billy Ralph Henderson, and one daughter, Judith L. Hendricks.
Mrs. Allen was a homemaker and formerly a beautician in Gwynneville.
She was a volunteer at Morristown Manor, where she participated in a Bible study and greeted new residents, reading scripture and having prayer with them in their rooms.
Mrs. Allen graduated in 1939 from Morristown High School and attended Beauty Academy in Indianapolis.
She was a member of Shiloh Christian Church, where she was a member of the ladies aid, and later attended Christ Fellowship in Knightstown.
Mrs. Allen wrote poetry and played the violin, piano and xylophone. She received her xylophone lessons through the Never Too Late program and was featured in The Shelbyville News in an article by LuAnn Mason on May 28, 2004.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ernie Robinson officiating.
Interment will be in Hanover Cemetery in Morristown.
