Mary L. Shadley, 86, of Waldron died Friday, April 24, 2009, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
Born Sept. 7, 1922, in Waldron, she was the daughter of Willie Marshall McVey Sr. and Alta Ann (Cuskaden) McVey. She married Gerald F. Shadley on June 10, 1944, in Rushville, and he preceded her in death on March 17, 2006.
Survivors include her daughter, Rebecca ?Becky? Cox of Waldron; son, Ronald W. (wife, Jodi) Shadley Sr. of Columbus; sister, Marjorie Strehl of Security, Colo.; brother, Willie Marshall McVey Jr. of Waldron; grandchildren, Aaron Cox and Ronnie Shadley, both of Columbus, Cpl. Jesse W. (wife, Jenny) Shadley of Fort Wainwright, Alaska, Tyler Shadley and Travis Shadley, both of Evansville; and great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Kelly and Mallory, all of Fort Wainwright.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Maxine O?Donnell and Minnie Hadley Spalding; brothers, Paul McVey and Charles McVey; and grandson, Patrick Leon Shadley.
Mrs. Shadley had been employed as a clerk for several years in the Camp Atterbury PX and Commissary, Kings Pantry in Shelbyville and as a teller at Shelby National Bank for many years. She also was a kindergarten teacher at St. Joseph Catholic School of 1961 to 1973.
She graduated from Waldron High School in 1940.
Mrs. Shadley was a 50-year member of Waldron Baptist Church; charter member of Waldron Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary; and charter and 57-year member of Liberty Home Ec Club.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Carmony-Ewing Chapel of Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Steve Holland officiating.
Burial will be in Van Pelt Cemetery, south of Waldron.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Waldron Baptist Church, Waldron Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice of South Central Indiana.
