Mary Lou Vaught

Mary Lou Vaught, 85, of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at Major Hospital. Born May 24, 193, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Allen C. and Oleatha (Ensminger)Bennett. She married Bernard Dale Vaught on July 29, 1944, and he preceded her in death on March 14, 1986. Survivors include her daughters, Peggy (husband, Randolph) Sexson and Sally (husband, Gary) Boone, both of Indianapolis; son, Michael (wife, Sally) Vaught of Shelbyville; brother, Robert Bennett of Indianapolis; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. Mrs. Vaught and her husband owned and operated Vaught Oil Co. from 1946 to 1982. She was a volunteer for Planned Parenthood and Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Vaught graduated from Shelbyville High School and attended Butler University. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Women's Club, Catherine Merrill Circle, Kappa Kappa Sigma and Kappa Alpha Theta. Mrs. Vaught loved to travel and play bridge, and spent many years traveling around the world. She was an avid reader and supporter of the Shelbyville-Shelby County Public Library. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shelbyville-Shelby County Public Library, 57 W. Broadway St., Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
