Mary M. Skaggs, 89, of Osgood, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Manderly Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born Tuesday, April 8, 1924, in Casey County, Kentucky, the daughter of William Herschel and Edith Gertrude (Delk) Wooten. She married Omer Skaggs in 1940, and he preceded her in death in 1986. Mary is survived by her children, Oliver Skaggs of Franklin, Freddy Skaggs and wife, Barbara of Shelbyville, Kenny Skaggs and wife, Kathy of Rushville, Larry Skaggs and wife, Dawn and Gary Skaggs and wife, Theresa, both of Milan, Mary Lathrem and husband, Clark and Nadine McCorkle and husband, Ed, both of Indianapolis, Peggy Smith and husband, Richard of Needham, Patricia Bontrigger and husband, Larry and Anna Corsaire and husband, Brian, both of Kokomo; sister, Orphe Hudson of Russell Springs, Kentucky; 32 grandchildren; several great and great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one brother. Mary was a homemaker and a member of Hope Baptist Church near Dillsboro. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, making quilts and dolls that she most graciously donated to needy children. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2014 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Tom officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ruth Lyons Childrens Fund in care of the funeral home.
