Maurice E. Branson, 83, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, February 23, 2020 at his home.
He was born December 22, 1936, in Shelby County, the son of Harold M. and Ruth E. (Billingsley) Branson. On June 12, 1960, he married his wife of 59 years, Mary Jane Burch, and she survives.
In addition to Mary Jane, Maurice is survived by his sons, Greg Branson and wife, Jenny, of Shelbyville, and Kevin Branson of Boggstown; daughter, Laura Poynter and husband, Kenny, of Columbus; sisters, Linda Hewitt and husband, Larry, of Greenfield, and Sandy Caudill of Franklin; grandchildren, Pete Negron and wife, Sarah, Jeremiah Branson and wife, Sarah, Joshua Branson, and Jared Branson and wife, Nicole; and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Gabriel and Gracen.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Maurice was a 1956 graduate of Fairland High School and formerly served as president of the Fairland Alumni Association.
He was a member of the Fairland United Methodist Church.
Maurice was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post No. 70, where he served on the Memorial Team.
He retired from Allison Gas Turbine of Indianapolis, with 25 years of service, on March 1, 1993.
Maurice was a Past Master of the Sugar Creek Masonic Lodge No. 279 Free and Accepted Mason. He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie Lodge No. 766 and participated on the Eagles bowling league at Blue River Bowl.
He also enjoyed golfing.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the funeral home, with Rev. Linda Brackney officiating.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, with military honors conducted by the local military committee.
