Max L. Owens

Max L. Owens, 88, of Shelbyville passed away Monday, July 20, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital in Beech Grove. Bortn November 14, 1920, in Wabash, Indiana, he was the son of O. Russell and Elizabeth (Kegerreis) Owens. He married Gayle Mitchell Green on January 26, 1973, and she survives. Other survivors include his children, Margaret (husband, Jay) Lowe, Patty Ash, Nancy (husband, Phil) Haehl, Jill (husband, Brent) Montgomery, David Green, Craig (wife, Yasmina) Owens and Roger (wife, Ginger) Owens; sister, Rose Hinkle; grandchildren, Luke and Jake Runnebohm, Megan West, Cody Montgomery, Ben Ross, Alex and Emily Green, Simeon and Silas Owens, Adam and Wade Lowe, Matt and Aaron Haehl, Melissa Stout, Brad and Allison Ash, Amy Willoughby and Graham Owens; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and grandson, Joshua Lee "Josh" Montgomery. Mr. Owens was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving as a bombardier instructor during World War II. He graduated from Hartford City High School in 1938 and attended the University of Illinois. Mr. Owens was an active member of First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 34 W. Washington St., Shelbyville, Indiana, with visitation from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 34 W. Washington St., Shelbyville, Indiana 46176 or Shelbyville-Shelby Co. Public Library, Broadway St., Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
