Maxine D. Evans, 83, of Morristown passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis.
Born February 28, 1928, in Shelby County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Loren F. and Lucile (McNeely) Davis. She married Robert Evans on September 19, 1951, and he preceded her in death on July 10, 1998.
Survivors include her sons, Daniel Richard (wife, Carol) Evans of Brownsburg and John Sam Evans of Huntington Beach, California; daughter-in-law, LeeAnn Evans of Freetown; and grandchildren, David Richard Evans, Rachel Christine Evans and Josiah Andrew Evans.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sons, Robert E. "Ted" Evans and Joseph Andrew "Andy" Evans; and brother, Dr. R. Joseph Davis.
Mrs. Evans graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1946 and received her registered nursing degree from the Indiana University School of Nursing in 1949, studying there during the polio epidemic.
She began her nursing career at Major Hospital, then at Heritage House. She retired in 1988 as a medical specialist for Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indianapolis.
Mrs. Evans was a member of Gwynneville Christian Church, where she was a member of the ladies aid society and the organist and pianist for many years. She had also played for many services at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Frazier Chapel. She also was a member of Morristown Order of Eastern Star No. 316, the Red Hat Society, M.N.O. home economics club and the Birthday Group. She had also volunteered at the Spring Mill State Park Fall Festival.
Maxine loved her family and grandchildren and enjoyed playing ragtime music at the Boggstown Cabaret.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown and from 12 noon to 1 pm, Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Gwynneville Christian Church, 7104 E. Mulberry St. in Gwynneville.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm, Thursday at the church, with Phil Wright, minister of Trader's Point Christian Church and Pastor Nick Keaton of Gwynneville Christian Church officiating.
Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery.
