Maxine R. Compton, 85, of Needham passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at her residence.
Born January 20, 1927 in Shelbyville, to Alonzo and Gladys (Wickliff) Hatton. She married Joe L. Compton on April 5, 1953, and he survives.
Other survivors include her sons, David J. (wife, Deb) Compton of Indianapolis and Brian A. Compton of Shelby County; daughter, Carla S. (husband, Bruce) Mann of Arden Hills, Minnesota; grandchildren, Zack Mann, Cecilia Compton, John Compton and Stephen Compton; and great-grandchildren, John Compton and Levi Compton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, J. Robert Hatton, Chester Hatton and Carl Hatton; and a sister, Helen Hatton.
Mrs. Compton was a lifelong resident of Shelby County.
She retired from Western Electric, where she was an inspector in quality control, in 1980 after 30 years of service.
Mrs. Compton enjoyed quilting, crocheting afghans and traveling.
She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Whiteland and attended Shelby County schools.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Monday, September 3, 2012 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the funeral home, with Pastor Mark Felber officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
