Merle Elaine Wasson, 82, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born January 2, 1927 in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Floyd Mabe and S. Irene (Hodson) Fleming. She married William M. Wasson Jr. on October 27, 1946, and he preceded her in death on January 1, 1993.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Anne (husband, Larry) Fenton of Manilla; her sons, Steven G. Wasson, Marc A. Wasson and Wm. Gary Wasson, all of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Travis, Holly, Anthony, Nick and Jennifer; great-grandson, Bryton; sister, Evelyn Butler of Kerrville, Texas; step-sister-in-law, Pat Bellman.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and step-brother, Fred Bellman.
Mrs. Wasson was a lifelong resident of Shelbyville.
She was an executive secretary.
Mrs. Wasson was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Eastern Star Naamah Chapter # 73, where she was past matron and current treasurer; she also was a former Grand Representative.
She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1944.
Mrs. Wasson enjoyed needlepoint, ceramics and making stained glass.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Corliss Dees II officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
