Michelle Denise Wesolowski, 16, of Columbus, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 in Delaware County.
She was born May 26, 1997, in Columbus, the beautiful daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Benkeser) Wesolowski.
Survivors include her loving mother of Columbus; devoted sister, Katherine “Katie” Wesolowski of Columbus; maternal grandmother, Sandy (husband, Ronald) Mixell of Muncie; paternal grandparents, Anthony and Genevieve Wesolowski of Eaton; great-grandmother, Gladys Hansen; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father; and maternal grandfather, Karl Benkeser.
Michelle was a very active member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, where she helped with the Theology of the Body classes, was a youth group leader and in the band “Oremus” . She was preparing to help with Middle School youth group and was training to be a Eucharistic minister. Michelle always wore her first communion cross, because when people saw it, it would make them think about Jesus, if even for a second. She looked up to Mother Teresa and was supportive of Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India. Her patron saint for confirmation was St. Lucy Filippini.
She was a junior at Columbus East High School, where she was a two year member of the Key Club, and was Lieutenant Governor of the Heartland Division for half a semester. Michelle also led several service projects for the club, with her favorite being ringing bells for the Salvation Army. She was also a member of the Gymnastics team, and as known as the prayer leader, leading the team in a prayer before each meet.
Michelle was known as the “Queen of Modesty”, she never ran out of energy, had an outgoing personality and could handle any situation.
She also leaves behind the family dog, C.J.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 pm, Friday, August 16, 2013 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 1306 27th St., in Columbus, Indiana. Visitors from 1 to 3:30 pm—Please park at the North Christian Church parking lot.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 4 pm, at the church, with Father Clem Davis and Father Doug Marcotte officiating.
Interment will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery in Muncie at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 17, 2013.
Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
