Mildred I. Smith, 88, of Morristown, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Morristown Manor in Morristown.
She was born March 21, 1928 in Shelby County, the daughter of Frank Petty and Bertha (McDaniel) Winton. She married Robert J. Smith on January 14, 1947, and he preceded her in death on April 24, 2013.
Mildred is survived by her daughters, Loretta Tomlinson and husband, Bob, of Mesquite, Texas, and Pamela Bassett and husband, Mike, of Morristown; sons, Stephen R. “Snooze” Smith and James “Pat” Smith and wife, Beth, both of Shelbyville, and Douglas Roger Smith and wife, Mary, of Morristown; grandchildren, Joshua Bassett, Jessica Bassett, Travis Smith and wife, April, Bryon Sangster and wife, Lisa, Paul Tomlinson and wife, Tara, Jeramie Smith, Justin Smith, Richard Keith Johnson, Derrick Justice and wife, Amber, Damion Justice and wife, Jill, and Karen Tomlinson; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Carl Winton; brother, Russell Gene Winton; and a sister, Dorothy Adkins.
Mildred was a member of Morristown Christian Church.
She formerly worked at Western Electric, later at GE/Wellman for 20 years, retiring in 1988. Mildred owned Smith Realty in Morristown, where she was the realtor and broker.
Mildred loved her family and friends, she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Morristown Christian Church, 209 S. Washington St. in Morristown.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with Pastor Fred Hickman officiating.
Interment will be at Whispering Hope Cemetery in Shelbyville.
Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.
