Mildred L. "Mid" Fuchs, 104, of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Morristown Manor in Morristown.
She was born October 17, 1906, in Shelby County to Alonzo M. Phares and Celestial (Fair) Phares. She married Hughelza Fuchs, who preceded her in death in May 1969.
Survivors include grandsons, Brent Fuchs of Shelbyville and James (wife, Vonda) Ashley; granddaughter, Jane (husband, Steve) Macy of Shelbyville; great-granddaughters, Brittany and Lindsay Fuchs; great-grandson, Tom Macy; and a great-great-grandson, Taylor Pope.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepdaughter, Maxine Ashley; stepson, Delbert Fuchs; sister, Mary Teresaleah Muesing and Letha McDaniels; and brothers, Lorel "Kiddy" Phares and Fay A. Phares.
Mrs. Fuchs was a lifelong resident of Shelby County.
She was a school teacher for 41 years, beginning her career in a one-room school where all grades learned together at Rays Crossing. She retired in 1974 from Triton Central schools.
She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1924 and Danville Central Normal Teachers College.
Mrs. Fuchs was a member of Rays Crossing Christian Union Church since 1922, Blue River Baptist Church, Ladies Aid and Morristown Chapter 316 Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Fuchs enjoyed working in her yard and loved flowers.
Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm Friday, August 12, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Doug Sharp officiating.
Interment will be in Bennett Cemetery.
