Mildred M. Hamilton, 98, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville.
She was born May 22, 1917, in Marietta, the daughter of Clarence and Grace (McCullough) Hamilton.
Mildred is survived by her sister, Violet Mae Hamilton of Shelbyville; brother, Max Hamilton and wife, Vernita, of Greenville, Ohio; sister-in-law, Anitta Hamilton of Punta Gorda, Florida; nieces, Joyce Obradovic’ and husband, Paul, and K. Michelle “Shelly” Hamilton; and nephews, Philip Hamilton, Stephen Hamilton and Paul Daniel Hamilton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Melvin Hamilton and Paul Hamilton; and a niece, Susan Elaine Hamilton.
Mildred graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1935.
She was a member of Bible Holiness Church, where she was the church pianist, Wednesday night class leader, board member and assistant Sunday school teacher.
Mildred was a Gospel singer with her sister, Violet Mae for over fifty years, traveling throughout the United States and Canada.
After retirement she was a tutor in the literacy program and taught piano lessons up to the age of 95.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Bible Holiness Church, 2911 E. Michigan Road in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Pastor Joseph Smith officiating.
Interment will be a Forest Hill Cemetery.
