Mildred M. McCrea, 91, of Shelbyville, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, at Ashford Place Health Campus. Born April 14, 1915, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Harry and Sarah Helena (Mohr) McCrea. Survivors include several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John Robert McCrea and Frank Samuel McCrea. Ms. McCrea lived on her homeplace in Smithland all of her life. She had been employed at Camp Atterbury as a secretary in property division of quartermaster from June 1942 to June 1947; Great States Co. from September 1947 to August 1950; Camp Atterbury from August 1950 to August 1954 and at Fort Benjamin Harrison as an account technician from August 1954 to June 1973. Ms. McCrea graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1933. She was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church, Eastern Star Naamah chapter No. 73, Shelbyville Business & Professional Women and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Ms. McCrea liked to knit, sew and travel. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Clapp officiating. Interment will be in Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
