Mona Gail Spalding, 64, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022, at her home.
She was born June 29, 1957, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Chester Paul and Alwilda Frances (Snider) Harding. On September 11, 1976, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, she married her high school sweetheart, Daniel Edward Spalding. They recently celebrated 45 years of marriage.
In addition to Dan, Mona is survived by her daughters, Mindy Spalding Baxter and husband, Ronnie, of Greensburg, and Andrea Powell and husband, Scott, of Shelbyville; son, Thomas Spalding of Shelbyville; brothers, John Harding and wife, Janice, of Shelbyville, William Harding and wife, Elaine, of Westfield; Richard Harding of Columbus, and Michael Harding and wife, Beth, of Waldron; sister, Janice Kuhn and husband, Bruce, of Waldron; granddaughter, Emersyn Powell; several nieces, nephews and cousins; three aunts; and two uncles.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mona graduated in 1975 from Waldron High School. She became a realtor in 2003 and opened her own brokerage, In-Sight Realty, in 2011.
She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of Daughters of Isabella.
Mona firmly believed that when you live in a community you give back to that community and she fully lived this.
She served on numerous boards, including Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, and was a past chair of the Shelby County Division of MIBOR. She also volunteered for SCUFFY and the Cancer Association of Shelby County, was a girl scout troop leader and past graduate of Leadership Shelby County. She was active in Main Street’s First Friday celebrations. Mona was also a member of the Pioneer Engineer’s Club of Indiana.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. A vigil will be held at 4 p.m. led by Sister Joan Miller.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St. in Shelbyville, with Father Mike Keucher officiating.
Interment will be at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville.
