Monte Wayne Wertz

Monte Wayne Wertz, 61, of Waldron, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013. Born June 23, 1952, in Shelby County, he was the son of Wayne L. Wertz and Ada (DeBaun) Wertz Fromer. He married Rita Marie Harrell on May 6, 1977, and she survives. Other survivors include his mother, Ada Fromer of Shelbyville; son, Brian Wayne Wertz of Indianapolis; daughter, Amy L. (husband, Wade) Markey of Indianapolis; sister, Vicky (husband, Johnny) Roberson of Ezel, Kentucky; and a granddaughter, Leah Markey of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his father. Monte graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1970, completed a two years apprenticeship with Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 440 and four years as a journeyman. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, American Legion Post No. 70, Forty and eight club and a past member of Knights of Columbus. Mr. Wertz was employed at Choice Mechanical in HVAC Maintenance, until retiring in 2000. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with the rosary recited at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4218 E. Michigan Road in Shelbyville, with Father Paul Landwerlen officiating. Interment will follow in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Melanoma Research Foundation, P.O. Box 759329, Baltimore, MD 21275-9329 or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 E. 17th St., Columbus, IN 47201.
