Morris J. "Jay" Stroup, 85, of Shelbyville passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Major Hospital.
Born June 29, 1923, in Shelby County, he was th son of Chester and Hazel (Fischer) Stroup. He married Evelyn Waltz on October 12, 1945, and she survivors.
Other survivors include son-in-law, John (wife, Bev) Sellers of Columbus; brother-in-law, Carroll (wife, Erma) Waltz of Shelbyville; aunt, Edna Cobler of Franklin; stepgrandchildren, Shannon (husband, Dave)McGahren of Tennessee, Tricia Stewart of Seymour, Michelle (husband, Kevin) Spence of Indianapolis and Stephanie (husband, Marc) Mazzon of Michigan; 12 great-stepgrandchildren; nieces, Nisa (husband, Dave) Hensley and Staci (husband, Joe) Wilcox, both of Shelbyville, Debbie (husband, Dale) Cummins of Liberty and Peggy McDonald of Maryland; and nephews, Phil (wife, Teresa) Waltz and Craig (wife, Desiree) Waltz, both of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gene Alan Stroup; daughter, Nancy Sue Sellers; and brother, Millard Stroup.
Mt. Stroup was a farmer in Shelby County, retiring in 2002.
He graduated from Boggstown High School.
Mr. Stroup had formerly attended Bengal Christian Church.
He enjoyed welding; working on his farm and his farm machinery; motorcycle riding; and NASCAR especially Indy Racing and go cart racing at the Whiteland Raceway.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Campbell officiating.
Interment will be in Second Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
