Murrita Louise "Rita" Montgomery

Murrita Louise “Rita” Montgomery, 73, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020 at MHP Medical Center in Shelbyville. She was born November 3, 1946, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Lloyd and Regina (Valentine) Thurston. She married Joe B. Montgomery, and he preceded her in death. Rita is survived by her sister, Joy J. Lovitt of Shelbyville; nephews, Robin Lovitt and Phillip Rice; nieces, Beth Crouch, Chris Lovitt and Jerri Lynn Wanser; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to Joe, Rita was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Hazel Montgomery; sister, Romona “Mona” Hodges; nephew, Valen Thurston; and niece, Sally “Tish” Rice. Rita graduated in 1964 from Shelbyville High School. She lived most of her life in Texas, as her health was failing, she returned to Shelbyville to be close to her life-long friends, Billie and Denny Corley and family. Rita enjoyed playing computer games. Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 South Harrison Street in Shelbyville.
