Ned Hiram Cole, 80, of Rushville, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.
He was born August 6, 1933, in Shelby County, the son of Hiram B. and Mildred Pearl (Benefiel) Cole. On December 1, 1968, he married his wife of 43 years, Janet Ann Marshall Lawson, and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2012.
Survivors include his son, Terry A. Cole of Rushville; stepson, Mark S. Lawson and wife, Veronica of Charlestown; sisters, Betty A. Larrabee and husband, Gene of Shelbyville and Millie Jean Boring and husband, Jan of Northville, Michigan; sister-in-law, Wanda Cole of Greenfield; grandchildren, Tyler Cole and wife, Tabitha of Shelbyville and Tara Cole of Waldron; stepgrandson, Joshua S. Lawson and wife, Melodie of San Antonio, Texas; and five great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosemary Dineff; and a brother, Ricky Dean Cole.
Ned graduated from Morristown High School in 1951.
He was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1954 to 1956, in Europe and Korea.
Ned was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Shelby County and the Eagles Lodge.
He retired from Naval Avionics in 1990, as a machine inspector.
Ned was a people person and he loved spending time with his family.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Rev. Dennis Frische-Mouri officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the local military committee.
Interment will be at Zion Cemetery in Shelby County.
