Norma June Thurston, 87, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Heritage House of Shelbyville. She was born July 22, 1928, in Shelby County, the daughter of Melvin L. and Josephine (Petty) Jones. She married Burnard A. Thurston on August 22, 1946, and he preceded her in death on April 23, 1990. She is survived by her cousin, Charlie Kocher and wife, Rita, of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Tammy DePotty, Christy Rhoades, Heather Thurston, Joshua Thurston and Aaron DePotty; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Nicholas, Michael, Alexander, Angelina and Stormie; great-great-grandchildren, Jayden, Hayden, Dastyn and Adalyn; sister-in-law, Carol Thurston of Shelbyville. She was also preceded in death by her son, Dennis W. Thurston; and a daughter, Sandra Grow. Norma June graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1946. She was a member of the Hope’s Point Baptist Church. Norma June was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Flatrock Chapter No. 473. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, November 30, 2015 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor David Humphrey officiating. Interment will be at VanPelt Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Association of Shelby County, P.O. Box 844, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
